<p>Vipassana meditation is an ancient Indian art, having been practised and taught in India – and now elsewhere – for over 2500 years. Originally developed by Guatama the Buddha as a healing and enlightening practise, Vipassana meditation brings insight to those who do it.</p>
<p>Practising Vipassana meditation is also known as observing the Art of Living, as Buddha called it, and is also called Insight meditation, encouraging practitioners to ‘see things the way they really are.’</p>

<p>After conducting a thorough evaluation, your teacher will now put you on a guided meditation course. A good teacher will know what is best for his or her student, so allow you teacher to chart your course. Since different people have different requirements, many teachers in energy meditation do not conduct group sessions. In most cases, you and you teacher will have a one-on-one session where your teacher will closely guide you during your meditation. Your first few sessions will usually consist of breathing exercises, stretching and free body movements to encourage the free flow of energy and to identify blocks.</p>

<p>The concept of Buddhism is drawn from Lord Buddha’s teachings, and fundamental to Buddhist meditation is concentration, which to the general public can often be misinterpreted as a trance-like or hypnotic state.</p>
<p>Fourth Noble Truth</p>
<p>The teachings of Lord Buddha revolved around “eight noble truths” that are central to Buddhism. Buddha believed that the way to enlightenment was to eradicate desire and cravings, which he believed cause all suffering and misery. Through controlling as well as disciplining the mind in Buddhist meditaiton, you would in theory be able to achieve a higher, more noble state of existence.</p>
<p>Buddhist meditation mainly draws its inspiration from the fourth noble truth, in which meditation is the vehicle that provides the mind with strength and also helps eliminate cravings and also desire.</p>
<p>The teachings of Lord Buddha described the mind as being the central part of all human life, and he believed - and taught - that it is only through the mind that am individual can achieve peace and be one with God. So, it follows that exercising the mind will help release it from the pitfalls of human follies and shortcomings, and these mind exercises are what Buddhist meditation is all about.</p>
<p><!--adsense#right-->&lt;!&#8211;adsense#right&#8211;&gt;The concept of meditation is often thought of as spiritual. While in many cases the two are not, in fact,  necessarily connected, Buddhist meditation can definitely be considered a spiritual practice. Whether you choose to embrace this aspect of it or not, Buddhist meditation and all other forms of meditation are a fantastic way to release the mind and let the body relax, and their power is transformative.</p>
<p>There are many similarities between Buddhist meditation and other kinds of meditation, and the main difference lies in what is preached and the principles on which the practice of this form of meditation is based. The goal of Buddhist meditation is to lead to the state of Nirvana, or ultimate freedom from strife and misery. It is a journey which is very personal, and once one achieves the optimum state, it would mean treading a path that will lead to enlightenment and which brings the mind and also the soul into perfect harmony.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Chakra meditation evolves from a concept originating in ancient India. It involves understanding and freeing our natural energy systems, and using colors to create harmony and balance within the body.</p>
<p>Over the years, chakra meditation has been adapted in many parts of the world. At present, there are many people living in North America and Europe who are practicing this type of meditation technique to get rid of stress and heal their bodies from the effects of stress.</p>

<p>Chakra comes from the Sanskrit word “cakra,” which in English means “wheel” or “disk”. This refers to whirling vortexes of energy in our bodies. Each vortex is said to be in a specific spot, and blockages of energy cause specific, physical problems.</p>
<p>There are nine primary chakras involved in the common models, although some deal with many more. By working with your chakras, you can alleviate many physical symptoms and maladies you may be experiencing. An Ayurvedic doctor can determine much about you from examining your energy flow. TIP: For more information, you can conduct a search on chakras and find a wealth of information at your fingertips.</p>
<ul>
<li> First is the muladhara which is said to be centered in the tip of the tailbone and is associated with the basic drives - sex, survival and security.</li>
<li>The second is the swadhisthana which is centered in the lower abdomen, and is said to be the center of unconscious emotions and of physical sensations.</li>
<li>The third chakra is the manipura at the navel, which is the center for dynamism and is where you feel your direct feelings. This is where you will get a &#8216;gut&#8217; feeling, whether good 9a hunch) or bad (gut-wrenching emotional pain).</li>
<li>The fourth chakra, at the solar plexus, is the manas/surya, associated with thought, reasoning and reflection.</li>
<li>The fifth chakra is the anahata, at the heart, which as you might expect is the seat of love, but also of respect.</li>
<li>The sixth chakra is the vishuddha, located in the upper chest, and associated with a sense of structure or purpose.</li>
<li>The seventh chakra is the lalata at the throat, and controls self-expression and personal sovereignty.</li>
<li>The anja at the brow denotes wisdom and manifestation, and is the eighth chakra.</li>
<li>Finally, the sahasrara, divided into three parts, is uppermost, extending from your head into your surrounding life force, and is rarely worked on in chakra meditation, for the simple reason that the vast majority have so many blocks in the lower chakras that they rarely reach the uppermost chakras in meditation work. Reaching this chakra is said to involve your higher consciousness and feels like utter bliss.</li>

<p><!--adsense#right--><strong>History Of Chakra Meditation</strong></p>
<p>Chakra meditation has been passed from generation to generation for more than four thousand years, practiced as described in the ancient Indian literature of the Vedas, the Upanishads, the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali and the Sat-Chakra-Nirupana.</p>
<p>The Sat-Chakra-Nirupana which came out sometime in the 16th century described in details the chakra meditation system. It is this literature which has the most influence in the current practice of the chakra meditation. In the 1920s, the practice of chakra meditation came to the west through the book of Arthur Avalon, The Serpent Power. More recently, you will have heard of this through many sources, including practitioners of Ayurvedic medicine such as Deepak Chopra (see his wonderful book on the carousel below).</p>
<p><strong>Tantric Chakras</strong></p>
<p>There are a number of styles of chakra meditations being practiced around the world today. One of the more esoteric chakra meditations involves the tantric chakras, mystically thought to emanate from the consciousness of Brahman in the spiritual realm.</p>

<p>Many serious meditation practitioners have their own cushions to help them feel more comfortable, just as yoga lovers have yoga mats. If you are interested in meditation, it would be a good idea for you to buy a meditation cushion before you start doing some meditation exercises. Always remember that you need to feel comfortable before you can hope to start enjoying the benefits of meditation.</p>

There are a number of meditation cushions that you can choose from. Two of the most famous types of meditations cushions are the traditional zafu, which is used in Zen meditation, and the zabuton. The zafu is a round black cushion that is filled with kapok. Kapok is a fluffy and silky material that comes from the seed pods of the kapok tree. Black cotton is alternatively used for this type of meditation cushion.</p>
<p>When using zafu, you need to sit on your buttocks on the front part of the cushion. You may also use this type of cushion between your legs while kneeling in a seiza fashion. </p>
<p>On the other hand, the zabuton is a mat that is filled with cotton batting. The zabuton serves simply as insulation from the cold floor.</p>
<p><strong>Buying Meditation Cushions</strong></p>
<p><!--adsense#right-->When buying meditation cushions, pay close attention to the cushion filling. Note that the materials stuffed underneath the cushion can either make you feel comfortable or uncomfortable. To make sure that you feel comfortable sitting on your meditation cushion, it would be best for you to get a cushion that is filled either with kapok or cotton batting.</p>
<p>The good thing about kapok as filling material for your meditation cushion is that it is a natural insulator. This type of material will warm with your body heat, so the lower part of your body will not get cold while you sit and meditate. Furthermore, kapok is very light and tends to mold to your body after several meditation sessions.</p>
<p>Aside from the kapok, cotton batting can be a good filling for your cushion. Cotton is cool during hot seasons so you will not really feel too hot on your pants seat. On the other hand, during cold weather, cotton can serve as an insulator. Cotton batting is ideal for your zabuton. Note that the floors can be quite cold to sit on during the winter so using a zabuton filled with cotton batting is a great choice.</p>

You will emerge feeling refreshed and relaxed, and the resulting calmess will flow into every aspect of your daily life, if you practice this regularly.</p>
<p>TIP: Make sure you set aside enough time to do your guided meditations fully, without interruption. Also ensure you are comfortable, and won&#8217;t be distracted by feeling cold or cramped.</p>

<p>These are especially useful for the beginner to meditation, as they provide a useful framework within which they can learn how to meditate. Meditation tapes offer a great introduction to the calm, meditative state people wish to achieve by providing a refuge from noisy distractions and offering soothing, calming music and/or speech.</p>
<p><!--adsense--><strong>Which Meditation Tapes Are Recommended?</strong></p>
<p>There are plenty of tapes on the market to choose from, and many different styles and purposes.  Some are aimed specifically at the beginner, for instance, and take you through the process of entering and maintaining a meditative state. Others offer more advanced technology such as brainwave synchronization (try the amazing meditations in the <a href="http://wealthbeyondreason.com/?a_aid=shauna">Wealth Beyond Reason</a> program!).</p>
<p>Try visiting some online sites if you are a beginner, as you can quite often pick up some basic meditation tapes for free - you may not even have to pay for shipping.  Some companies do this to encourage repeat business from new customers, so it’s worth taking advantage of any freebies you can find.</p>
<p><strong>What Can I Expect?</strong></p>
<p>Most meditation tapes use calming music playing quietly in the background to lull you into a relaxed state. In guided meditations, the voice of the narrator is usually very calming in itself (although it’s a good idea to make sure you listen to a snippet of the tape before you buy it, if you possibly can.  What another person may consider soothing may be irritating or grating to you - it’s all a matter of personal preference).</p>
<p><!--adsense#right-->Some meditation tapes are best listened to over a set of headphones. There are two reasons for this: firstly, it will help to block out any other unwanted noise from outside; and secondly some of them are balanced to provide sounds to one ear at a time. This alone produces a pleasant effect that helps to concentrate the mind on what you are hearing.</p>
<p>The act of meditation is all about learning to focus on a single thought or feeling, which in turn promotes calmness and relaxation. The various meditation tapes on the market use different methods and techniques to help us achieve that goal, such as focusing on our breathing.</p>
<p>Buy several different programs if you can, as people often find they have a favorite they use often.  </p>
<p>The other requirement to successfully using these tapes is to use them often – several times a week if possible.  Some people meditate every day, and they find the benefits they get from meditating far outweigh the amount of time they devote to it.</p>
